Do Something For a
Change – 10 Actions You Can Take to Make A Difference
1)
Acknowledge that the
threat of nuclear catastrophe – whether by accident or environmental
contamination – is real. The first action any of us can take is to
talk with friends and colleagues about this: what you know, what
this means, what you fear.
2)
Join a group working to
educate the public about nuclear issues and/or donate money to an
organization that does this work.
3)
Contact your
congressional representatives via postcard or email expressing your
views and concerns. It doesn’t take long.
4)
Use the Internet as a
resource and communication tool to send information to others who
are concerned or might like to learn more about nuclear issues.
5)
Call an environmental
group involved with nuclear waste and ask how you can contribute.
6)
Leave a message at the
White House switchboard expressing your views about nuclear issues
at (202) 456-1111 or email the President at
president@whitehouse.gov.
7)
Avoid taking an us vs.
them stance. Remember that we are all in this together and need to
work together to facilitate change.
8)
Start locally. Do what
you can do right where you are.
9)
Believe you can make a
difference by taking action even though you may not know the outcome
or impact of the actions you take.
10)
Be patient but
persistent. Small steps taken through time are what achieve lasting
change.
